Dear Diane,
I was going to write you as well. Sorry I missed you. One day when we
stopped by, a woman with a wheelbarrow stopped to tell us you were not in.
that it was unusual, and she would try to go look for you if we wanted her
to. What a wonderful town you have!
Our visit was glorious. If Mom was going to fall, it was good to have all
her daughters there. The day before she had been scrambling on the we
decks of the Laura B. to see all
the views. Both Penobscot Medical Center, and Knox Rehab were great. We
stayed with her around the clock. In fact, the other two sisters are
there now.
Nanatuck House is fantastic. I cannot believe the size of those rooms and
the lovely utility of the spaces. There were enough plates, utensils,
etc to host large groups for a meal. It was perfect. Please tell the
owners that we loved it and know that they must be wonderful special
people to have such a gracious space and be willing to share it.
The wedding could not have been more perfect, the weather, the food, the
beautiful bride, the band, the guests......
And just about all of us got to go sea kayaking which was inspiring.
Sitting on the Adirondacks at the East Wind
after breakfast, discovering
the fabulous food at
Craignair,
the best fried clams ever at the Happy Clam, walking to
Marshall Point, the list of
wonderful moments goes on.
The only tinge of disappointment is that one of the sisters was hoping to
see an actual hurricane.
We even had no problems with mosquitoes or anything, but if such critters
do exist in your environs, someone might want to repair a few of the
screens that are loose.
Thank you very much for setting it all up for us. If you ever want
a review, let me know. I hope to see you on another visit, although they
are few and far between.
As ever,

My husband and
I reluctantly left Mouse
Island this morning. I have been vacationing in the area for over
twenty years and this past week was the most wonderful week I have ever
had.
We have very hectic lives, as I am sure you do, and we left completely
rejuvenated. There is something very magical about the place, the light,
the 360 degrees of ocean, and the sound of the waves. We never heard any
other people.
The house is
more than comfortable, 2 full baths and three lovely bedrooms. You can
see the lobster boats gliding out in the morning when you sit up in bed.
The overstuffed couch in the living room is a very comfortable spot to
watch Jamie Wyeth's island from. If you must, cell phone service is
excellent (no reception in Port Clyde for verizon) and there is wired
internet access.
As far as
Tenants Harbor, the small but very adequate general store is within
walking distance. The Cod End will
steam your lobsters for you if you choose to take them home. Rockland,
where the Farnsworth museum
is located, has many lovely restaurants. Look up
Primo, and get a
reservation now. The distance from Mouse Island to Rockland is much more
manageable than from Port Clyde.
My highest
recommendation is for Diane Hall. I have been renting from her for
approximately 18 years. She goes way above and beyond to make sure her
clients are happy. She is warm, friendly and efficient.
My only
reluctance in recommending it to you is that I would like to keep it a
secret ! Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further
assistance.
Sincerely, Kathy |
